The former head of state was found guilty of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in incarceration, but he remained under confinement pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after recent developments emerged.

This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a document approving the arrest, the magistrate said intelligence from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his getaway".

This, it said, would be made easier by the disorder caused by the gathering called by his child.

His offspring, his son Flávio, who serves as a legislator, called for a gathering of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on the weekend.
